Curl after laminating a flexible web

Curl after lamination means the two webs were not under the same stress. One was stretched, or one took on moisture, and the laminate bows toward the tighter side.

Checks

  1. Note which face the curl favors. The tighter web is usually the inside of the curl.
  2. Balance unwind and rewind tension. A web stretched hot shrinks as it cools and pulls the laminate.
  3. Match moisture. A dry film against a damp one moves after the nip.
  4. Do not judge curl on a warm roll straight off the laminator. Cool a sample flat, then look.
