Ink adhesion failure

Adhesion failure means the ink is sitting on the surface instead of locking to it. Check the substrate surface, whether the ink is fully dried or cured, and whether a coating was in the way.

Checks

  1. Tape-test a dry, cooled sheet. A wet or warm sheet fails tests that a cured sheet would pass.
  2. Confirm the ink is specified for that substrate. Film, foil, and heavily coated board need a different system than uncoated paper.
  3. If a primer or a coating is in the stack, test the ink on that surface, not on the bare stock.
  4. Raise cure or dry time before you change the formula. Undercure looks like a bad ink.
