Set-off in the pile or the rewind
Set-off is wet or soft ink transferring to the sheet or wrap that touches it. Slow the pile, cut the coat weight, or give the ink more dry time before anything stacks.
Checks
- Look at the back of the next sheet or the next wrap. A mirror image of the print is set-off, not a print defect on that side.
- Reduce pile height or rewind tension so fresh ink is not pressed hard against the next surface.
- Confirm the ink is dry or cured before coating, laminating, or packing.
- A heavier film of ink on a less absorbent stock needs more time. Compare a light patch with a solid.
