Poor rub resistance and scuffing

Rub resistance fails when the ink surface is soft, the coat is heavy, or nothing is protecting a high-contact area. Test the finished piece, not a sheet straight off the press.

Checks

  1. Rub a cooled, fully dried sample. A warm sheet scuffs even when the formula is right.
  2. Solids and dark colors show scuff first. Compare them with a light tint before you blame the whole job.
  3. A varnish, coating, or laminating film is the usual protection on a high-contact face. Confirm it is specified for that ink.
  4. If the coating itself scuffs, check cure and coat weight before you change the ink.
