Banding in a wide-format print

Banding is a repeating light or dark line in the print direction or across it. A missing nozzle, a bi-directional alignment error, or a media advance that skips will each draw a different pattern.

Checks

  1. Print a nozzle check before you change media. A missing nozzle is a line that repeats every pass.
  2. If the bands are even and match the pass height, check alignment and media advance, not the ink.
  3. A band that only appears on one media is often advance: the surface is slipping or the thickness is wrong.
  4. Do not laminate over banding and expect it to hide. The line is in the ink.
