Edge lift on wide-format graphics
Edge lift starts at a cut. The adhesive was never pressed there, the edge was stretched, or the film shrank after the graphic was trimmed.
Checks
- Burnish the edge after trimming. A cut through film and adhesive leaves a dry lip if you do not press it down.
- Let the graphic relax before you trim to the final size. Film that was stretched on the laminator shrinks back and pulls the edge up.
- Match the adhesive to the surface. A textured wall or a low-energy plastic needs a different film from a smooth board.
- Check application temperature. A cold panel does not wet out, and the edge is the first place that shows.
