Outgassing bubbles under wide-format laminate
Outgassing is gas leaving a fresh wide-format print after the laminate has already sealed it in. The print looked fine, then bubbles or a milky patch showed up.
Checks
- Wait before you laminate a fresh solvent, latex, or resin print. Heavy coverage needs longer than a light one.
- If bubbles appear only over dark solids, the ink there is still giving off gas. The film is not the first suspect.
- A pressure-sensitive overlaminate traps gas the same way a hot film does. Time, not heat, is the check.
- Do not pile fresh prints face to face while they are still breathing. That marks them before you ever laminate.
