Die-cutting that tears or leaves a tag
A die-cut that tears, leaves a tag, or cuts too far is a make-ready problem: too much pressure, a dull edge, or a liner that was not meant to be cut.
Checks
- Check whether the cut is too deep or too shallow before you add pressure everywhere. One high spot is not a dull die.
- On labels, the liner should stay intact. A cut into the liner becomes a web break at the rewind.
- A laminating film over the sheet needs a die that can cut the film and the board. A die set for bare board will tag.
- Replace or nick a dull rule before you crush the sheet trying to make it cut.
