Flute crush on corrugated

Flute crush flattens the corrugation under the printing nip. The sheet comes out weaker and the print follows the crushed flutes.

Checks

  1. Look at the flute from the edge after printing. A flute that is flat under the print and tall in the margins was crushed in the nip.
  2. Back off impression before you add ink. Extra pressure hides a weak print and damages the board.
  3. A softer plate and a lighter kiss keep the flute up. Crushing is not an ink-body problem.
  4. Check incoming board. Flutes that arrived crushed will not stand up on press.
