Adhesive ooze on labels
Adhesive ooze is glue leaving the label at the edge or the side of the roll. Heat, too much pressure, and a soft adhesive are the usual causes.
Checks
- Look at the side of the roll. A shiny ring is adhesive that has squeezed out under rewind tension.
- Lower rewind tension and keep the roll cool. A warm shop softens a lot of adhesives.
- A deep die strike that cuts into the adhesive, then a tight rewind, pushes glue out at the cut.
- Wipe the press only after you have stopped the cause. Fresh ooze comes back on the next roll.
