Folding carton board that warps
Carton warp is the board bowing after one face was wetted or dried harder than the other. Ink, coating, and a hot dryer all pull moisture out unevenly.
Checks
- See which face is shorter. The board curls toward the face that dried more.
- Back-off a heavy coating or a very hot dryer on one side only. Balance the moisture before you add pressure in the die cutter.
- Keep loads wrapped and flat. A warm load cools into a curl if the top sheet dries faster.
- Check incoming board. Warp that is already in the pile will not come out in the press.
