Washboarding on corrugated print

Washboarding is a light-and-dark stripe that follows the flutes. The liner is high on the flute tips and low in between, so the ink only kisses the peaks.

Checks

  1. If the stripe matches the flute pitch, it is the board, not a roller band.
  2. A lighter impression reduces crush but will not fill the valleys. The artwork and the plate have to live with the flute.
  3. Heavier liners bridge the flutes better than light ones. Check the board spec before you chase the ink.
  4. Do not raise pressure until the flutes crush. That trades a stripe for a weak box.
