Static on film, paper, and label stock

Static shows up as clinging sheets, double feeds, and dust attracted to a dry web. Low humidity and synthetic stocks make it worse.

Checks

1. Raise the humidity in the room if it is very dry. Static complaints cluster in winter and in over-dried pressrooms.
2. Ground the press and use the static control the machine already has before you add gadgets.
3. Film, synthetic paper, and some label liners hold a charge longer than uncoated paper. Slow the feed if sheets are sticking together.
4. Keep dust off the web. Static makes specks look like a print defect.
